Staying Well This Summer: Seasonal Advice from Bulli Medical Practice

As we move through another busy season on the beautiful South Coast, I want to take a moment to reflect on the health themes we're seeing in the clinic and share a few reminders to help keep our community well.
This time of year always brings a mix of visitors, returning holiday-makers, and long-term locals through our doors. With the warmer weather, we're seeing more cases of sunburn, dehydration, and minor injuries from outdoor activities. Please remember that even on cooler or cloudy days, UV levels here remain high. Regular sunscreen use, protective clothing, and hydration are essential—especially for children and older adults.
Respiratory infections have also made an early appearance. We're noticing a rise in influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 cases across the region. Vaccination remains our best defence, and updated boosters are available at the clinic. If you're unsure whether you're due, our team is happy to check your immunisation record. If you do fall ill, our dedicated infectious clinic is available most days—simply call our reception team after 8am to book.
Many people experience gradual weight gain over the Christmas period due to richer foods, larger portions, and disrupted routines. Being mindful of balance—enjoying festive treats while keeping up regular activity—can help keep things in check.
Lastly, I encourage everyone to prioritise preventive care. Annual check-ups, skin checks, and chronic condition reviews help us detect concerns early and tailor care to your needs. If it's been a while since you've had a review, consider this your nudge.
Wishing our community a safe and healthy summer.
